CCTT Secretary General Gennady Bessonov participated in the Euro-Asian regional mid-term review meeting of the Vienna action programme for landlocked developing countries, organized jointly by the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (UNESCAP), the United Nations Economic Commission for Europe (UNECE) and the Office of the High representative of the United Nations for the least developed countries, landlocked developing countries and small island developing States (UN-CPPNM). The meeting was held from 11 to 12 February 2019 at UNESCAP headquarters in Bangkok (Thailand). The regional review meeting was held in accordance with UN General Assembly resolution 72/232, which will result in a comprehensive mid-term review of the implementation of the Vienna action programme (VAP) at a high level during 2019, which in turn will be preceded by regional preparatory meetings, including the current one. This regional review meeting provided an opportunity for Euro-Asian landlocked developing countries (LLDCs), transit countries, development partners, international organizations and other stakeholders to review progress made in the implementation of the EAP by Euro-Asian LLDCs, identify achievements and constraints, new and emerging challenges, and provide an opportunity to share best practices and formulate policy recommendations aimed at accelerating the implementation of the EAP and achieving the sustainable development goals. The recommendations from the meeting will serve as the basis for the high-level discussion of the outcome document of the mid-term review.
