CCTT Secretary General Gennady Bessonov took part in the Euro-Asian regional midterm review meeting of the Vienna Programme of Action for the Landlocked Developing Countries co-organized by the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (UNESCAP), the United Nations Economic Commission for Europe (UNECE) and the United Nations Office of the High Representative for Least Developed Countries, Landlocked Developing Countries and Small Island Developing States (UN-OHRLLS). The meeting was held from February 11 to February 12, 2019 at the UNESCAP headquarters in Bangkok (Thailand).
The regional review meeting was held pursuant to UN General Assembly resolution 72/232, which decided to convene a comprehensive high-level midterm review on the implementation of the Vienna Programme of Action (VPoA) in 2019, preceded by regional preparatory meetings. This regional review meeting provided an opportunity for Euro-Asian landlocked developing countries (LLDCs), transit countries, development partners, international organizations and other stakeholders to review the progress made in the implementation of the VPoA by Euro-Asian LLDCs, identify achievements, constraints, new and emerging challenges, share best practices and formulate policy recommendations aimed at accelerating the implementation of the VPoA and the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals. The recommendations from the meeting will feed into deliberations of the outcome document of the high-level midterm review.
