InterRail is general agent for China Railways subsidiary CRCT 16.09.2015 04:17
St. Gallen, 16 September. Effective September 1st, the Sankt Gallen, Switzerland based InterRail Group and China Railway Container Transport Co. Ltd. (CRCT), Beijing, an affiliate of China Railways, signed a general agency contract for the regions Europe, Central Asia and Iran.
The InterRail Group has been active for many years in rail traffics from/to and through the CIS and counts among the leading train operators in the China-Europe-China traffic. Currently, four to five container block trains per week are dispatched in each direction. Before the end of September, the first train between China and Iran is going to run, at this time by using the intermodal option via the Kazakh port of Aktau. Block train connections between China and Central Asia, e.g. to Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan, are also part of the InterRail Group’s product range.
“Especially in these past two years, we have achieved considerable progress in rail traffic between China and Europe concerning transit times, reliability, and the number and variety of the products offered. Today, our portfolio comprises, apart from the container block trains, open trains to be loaded with single containers or container groups, as well as a regular LCL line from China to Germany. These positive developments on the Eurasian overland route are also the result of closer cooperation among all parties involved. The contract we signed with CRCT also emphasizes that”, says Hans Reinhard, Chairman of the InterRail Group and President of GETO, the Group of European Trans-Siberian Operators and Forwarders. And he adds: “The contract is a substantial addition to our existing contract network with the Kazakh partners and our intensive cooperation with the Kazakh Railways, since the main leg of China-Europe traffics runs along that route.”
China Railways, too, has long been an extremely important partner for InterRail. “Thanks to our contract with CRCT, we can now tap together the huge potential for development that is generated by the ‘New Silk Road Project’ of the Chinese government. In this project, CRCT will play an eminent role”, explains Fan Jia, Managing Director of InterRail (Shanghai) Ltd.
The contract between the two companies regulates the services that InterRail offers for CRCT in Europe, Central Asia and Iran. The focus is on forwarding and logistics services for rail traffic in the Eurasian area. With a special emphasis on involving the InterRail-operated Ostwind / Westwind container block train traffics. Operator services, warehousing, door-door transports and container management are part of the contract. In return, CRCT performs these services for InterRail in China. Moreover, InterRail and companies allied to the Group, will share their experiences and offers for combined rail/sea traffics as well as for multimodal transports via the new Silk Road.
