Working groups

Within the frame of CCTT Working groups’ activity, general meetings, meetings with heads of the leading forwarding companies and the international transport associations constant monitoring of functioning of the Transsib transport corridor is performed.

At the present day as part of CCTT with no time intervening, and also at working meetings the questions connected with staging of block container trains "Baltic-transit", «Ostwind», «Kazakhstan vector», and also questions connected with possible organization of transit container trains via Russia’s railways, including new routes: China - Poland, China - Germany, Afghanistan – France and etc. are solving.

With a view of increasing freight transportation volume as a part of the organized container trains railway, shipping and forwarding companies and other involved companies - members of the CCTT spend work on:

  • making up through intermodal services;
  • creating and implementing transport products;
  • optimizing expenses and cost of all factors of through service;
  • reducing transaction costs and a time loss, connected with frontier and customs procedures, cargo handling and containers in ports.

Container train operation is arranged on the routes Berlin-Moscow (‘Ostwind’), and Moscow-Berlin (‘Westwind’). Train operators: ‘Intercontainer-Interfrigo’, ‘InterRail Services’, ‘Polcont’, ‘Belintertrans BCh’, ‘Firm “RailService” .

Based on the decision of the government of Russia dated January 24, 1998 and the decision of the Ministry of Transport of Russia dated May 15, 1998 # MF 29/560, full liberalization of cargo transports on the sea leg of the Transsiberian Route (Japan/South Korea – Port Vostochny) was carried out to provide competitive transportation conditions.

Container train operation arranged on the route Brest – Ulan-Bator. (‘Mongolian Vector’). Operators: ‘Tuushin Company’, ‘Rubikon’, ‘Transa’, ‘Belintertrans BCh’, ‘ARGO Bohemia’, and ‘Trade Trans’.
In 2005 the participants of the project managed to extend the routing to China: bilateral eastbound and westbound train operation was arranged. On September 29, 2005 a demonstration train carrying 107 containers (TEUs) was dispatched from Jining (China) to Duisburg (Germany) as part of the joint project of UN ESCAP and OSJD.


Container train operation arranged on the route Nakhodka-Vostochnaya – Almaty. Operators: JSC ‘DVTG’, JSC ‘TransContainer’.

‘Baltic Transit’ container train operation established for transporting cargo from the USA and Europe via the Baltic ports to Central Asia. Operator: TIS Ltd. (since 2008 – FESCO Integrated Transport, FIT). Project manager: Latvian Railways.

Operation of ‘Northern Lights’ container train arranged on the route Finland – Moscow – Finland as part of the agreement between JSC ‘TransContainer’ and VR Cargo. The companies agreed on responsibilities for cargo safety and timely delivery, as well as on ensuring seamless operation of the train in full accordance with the schedule and mutual provision of actual information about the location of the train on the respective railway etc.

Hyundai Motors Co. car components delivery arranged from Busan via Port Vostochny to the car assembly plant in Taganrog (train routing: Nakhodka-Vostochnaya – Martsevo) using a simplified procedure according to which all containers in the container train are transported based on a single transport document. Operators: JSC ‘Russian Troika’, ‘FESCO Logistic Ltd.’, JSC ‘TransContainer’.

As part of Russian-Lithuanian cooperation agreement on the ‘2K’ project (Kaliningrad and Klaipeda ports) operation of the ‘Mercury’ container train is arranged on the route Kaliningrad/Klaipeda – Moscow.

The Association of operators on international document circulation on railways (AED) introduces a web-based information service system ‘Container Bourse’ (www.container-xchange.com).

JSC ‘TransTeleCom Company’ introduces a web portal providing information services for transport companies (www.telecomtrans.com), including ‘e-insurance’ and ‘e-transportation’.

Transportation of ‘Daewoo’ car components is arranged via Port Vostochny to the car assembly plant in Assake (Uzbekistan). Operators: ‘UNICO Logistics Ltd.’ and JSC ‘TransContainer’.

‘Isuzu’ truck components transportation is arranged via Port Archangelsk to Ulyanovsk with F.E.Trans as the operator, as well as SUV components from Beijing to the assembly plant in Ulyanovsk, with the operator being JSC ‘Eurosib-TB’.

The Ministry of Transport of Russia took the decision “On exceptional tariffs for container transportation from third countries to third countries as transit on the Russian railways”.

‘Volkswagen’ components transportation is arranged from Brest to the assembly plant in Kaluga. Operators: JSC ‘TransContainer’, Schenker Automotive RailNet GmbH.

Regular container service is introduced on the route Vostochny - Novosibirsk (FESCO Siberian Shuttle). Operator: FESCO Integrated Transport ( FIT).

A joint service is introduced by ‘Hupac Intermodal’ and ‘Russian Troika’ for container transportation between the Slawkow railway terminal in Poland and the ‘Vostoktrans’ railway terminal in Moscow. Further it became possible to extend the routings from Moscow to the east, including Far-Eastern ports of Russia (Vladivostok, Nakhodka), thus scaling this service to the Transsiberian mainline.

As part of the project ‘TSR in 7 days’ container train operation was arranged on the route Nakhodka-Vostochnaya – Moscow hub. The train is operated by JSC ‘TransContainer’ and JSC ‘Russian Troika’, has 71 wagons conventional length and features an average speed of 1230 km per day.
As a result of the work performed by CCTT Secretariat together with the Department of cargo transportation marketing and tariff policy of JSC ‘Russian Railways’ aimed at creating an attractive commercial offer with a competitive through tariff rate for transit cargo transportation on the TSR via Far Eastern ports, the ‘Agreement on providing special tariff conditions for transportation, handling and guarding of transit cargo in container block trains’ was signed by the Federal Railway Security Service Company of Russia, FESCO Transportation Group, LLC ‘Vostochny Stevedoring Company’ (VSK), JSC ‘TransContainer’, JSC ‘Russian Troika’ and JSC ‘DVTG’.

A full container block train is arranged on the route Hamina – Buslovskaya – Port Vostochny and further to China, Korea, and Taiwan. Transit time on the Russian railways is 9,85 days. Operators: ‘Nurminen Logistics’, JSC ‘TransGarant’, ‘FESCO Integrated Transport/FIT’.

Container transportation of ‘Fiat’ car components from Italy to Russia is arranged based on a new delivery scheme: from Fiat warehouses in Villanova d’Asti and in Mozzagrogna via the Dobra terminal to the Tikhonovo station and the SOLLERS-Elabuga assembly plant. Delivery time is 9 days. Operator: JSC ‘TransContainer’.


Since 2011 the uniform payment procedure for transit freight transportation tariffs irrespective of directions of transportations is implemented on the Russian railways.

Decrease in level of base rates for container transportations in rail cars in the general fleet from China through Kazakh Dostyk border crossing to European countries via the Iletsk-Krasnoe route has made 10 %.

For containers transported by private rail cars base rates are lowered to 35 %, which corresponds practically to level of previously exceptional rates for container transportations as a part of container trains.

Since July 15th, 2011 a fix rate of 1890 rubles for customs declaration of goods related to customs procedure of customs transit on portside stations and boundary transitions is set.

The joint project of and PANTOS of LG plasma displays delivery project from South Korea to Poland is realized.
A Chongqing – Cherkessk route container train has started to run to deliver auto accessories from China for "Derveys" motor company ( by JSC TransContainer).

«Slavyanskiy Express» container train has started to run via Slavkov - Bryansk route (Railway operators of a train are: Russkaya Troyka and LISKI, participants of the project: Hupac Intermodal, FESCO, UZ, LHS).


Since May 1st, 2012 rate for transit freight traffic in containers as a part of container trains from Europe to China on routes of Ukrainian border crossing with the European countries, Brest border crossing – Zabaikalsk border crossing are down by 33%.

Since July, 1st, 2012 the rate for freight transportation in containers through Far East ports of Russia to Uzbekistan are down for 11 % due to an achievement of transportation volumes of 12 thousand loaded TEUs, as it is prescribed by the Tariff policy.

A Chongqing -Duisburg route container train (project of: JV YuXinOu Logistics Co Ltd (Chongqing), (Transport Holding of Chongqing (CQCT), the Chinese railway company on the international combined transportations (CRIMT), RZD Logistics, Schenker China Ltd. and JSC Kaztransservice) has started to run.

«Nakhodka Vostochnaya – Sergeli» for spare car parts transportation for GM - Uzbekistan (General Motors Uzbekistan) is organized (by JSC TransContainer).

« Nakhodka Vostochnaya - Kustanai» container train for spare car parts transportation for SsangYong Motor Company cars from South Korea to Kazakhstan in transit through territory of Russia is organized (by JSC TransContainer).


Zabaykalsk – Ulyanovsk (BAW). The container train service is in operation since November 2012. The route is used to transport BAW car assembly sets from China (Tianjin) to Russia (Ulyanovsk) via the Manchuria/Zabaykalsk border crossing. The project was started by Swift Multimodal Rus by means of a forwarding agreement.



Nakhodka-Vostochnaya – Ulugbek. The project was launched in June 2013. The route is used to transports assembly sets of Isuzu microbuses to the SamAvto assembly plant in Uzbekistan. The operator of the service is TransContainer.

Nakodka Vostochnaya – Pitnyak
The container service was launched by TransContainer OAO in November 2013. The route is used to carry spare parts for GM Uzbekistan car plant. The service runs from Korea to Uzbekistan via Russia and Kazakhstan.

Bratsk – Zabaykalsk. The container service was launched in December 2013 to carry pulp to China. Operator: TransContainer OAO.

Sbornaya Ugolnaya – Kleshchikha. The project was launched in April 2013 to transport detergents, utilizing TransContainer-owned rolling stock.

SPB tov. Vit. – Kleshchikha. The service launched by TransContainer in June 2013 carries consumer goods.

Perm – St. Petersburg. The first 57 standard wagon long train departed from the Blochnaya station of the Sverdlovsk railway to the Avtovo station of Oktyabrskaya railway end 2013. Now the service is operated by TransContainer OAO on a regular basis and carries various types of cargo.


Zabaykalsk – Kuntsevo-2. In June 2014 because of lack of cargo volumes for full-length trains, an irregular consolidated train train service was launched on the Zabaykalsk – Kuntsevo-2 route to carry IRITO car components and Colgate products.

Gorky Avtozavod – Togliatti – St. Petersburg service was launched in June 2014.

Nakhodka-Vostochnaya – Nukus. The container service was launched in March 2014 to deliver equipment to a gas chemical facility in Uzbekistan (UGHK) from Korea through Russia and Kazakhstan. The service is operated by TransContainer OAO and FESCO.

Nakhodka-Vostochnaya –Zhety Su. The service is in operation since May 2014. It carries Hyundai cars and consumer goods from Korea to Kazakhstan through Russia.

Nakhodka-Vostochnaya – Churuksay. The service is in operation since May 2014. It carries general cargo from China and Korea to Uzbekistan through Russia and Kazakhstan.

Nakhodka-Vostochnaya – Kungrad. The service is in operation since June 2014 and carries building equipment from Korea to Uzbekistan through Russia and Kazakhstan. Operator: TransContainer OAO.

SPB tov. Vitebsky – Batareynaya. The container service was launched in April 2014 to carry consumer goods, operated by TransContainer OAO.

Solikamsk – Kleshchikha. The service was launched in February 2014 to carry newsprint paper. The service is operated by and involves rolling stock of TransContainer OAO.

Ugolnaya – Yekaterinburg. The service was launched by TransContainer OAO and Pacific Intermodal Container ZAO in April 2014 to carry various cargoes.

Moskva tov. Paveletskaya – Bazaikha. The service, operated by TransContainer, OAO was launched in February 2014. It delivers consumer goods.

Tobolsk – Nakhodka Vostochnaya. The service is in operation since January 2014 and carries polypropylene.

Ussuriysk – Kuntsevo-2. TransContainer OAO launched the container train service in January 2014 to transport various cargoes (pipes, ferrous and non-ferrous metals, slabs and tiles. The route is used by services of other operators.

Kleshchikha – Nakhodka Vostochnaya. The service, operated by TransContainer OAO, was launched in February 2014. It delivers various cargoes from APR countries, chifly China.

Kleshchikha – Batareynaya. The service is in operation since June 2014.


The new FELB service on the Trans-Siberian route is a container train from Suzhou (large industrial center in southeast China) in the direction to Warsaw, Hamburg and Duisburg (Germany). Shipments from China and Europe are organized weekly.

United Transport and Logistics Company JSC (UTLC JSC, a subsidiary of JSC Russian Railways) organized a shipment of a container train from the port of Yingkou (PRC) to Moscow In September of 2015. The project was implemented within the framework of the agreements reflected in the memorandum of cooperation between JSC Russian Railways and the Yingkou Port group of companies.


As part of the project “Transsib for 7 days,” the transport product “Baikal Shuttle” was developed specifically for Japanese shippers, which connects Japanese ports with the ports of the Far East of the Russian Federation for transportation to Moscow according to a fixed schedule. The term of transportation is 13 days from the port of Yingkou to Moscow and 17 days to Minsk.

The implementation of a new joint project of Russian Railways, PJSC TransContainer, Chinese Railways, Container Corporation of Chinese Railways and Dalian Port on the transport of Samsung goods in the container train from Dalian to Kaluga region through the border crossing Zabaykalsk has begun.

SNCF launched the running of a new container train on the route Wuhan (China) - Lyon (France). The introduction of regular service of container trains on this route is scheduled for 2017. 

New services of UTLC JSC for filling the East-West transit corridor has been presented: U WEST and U EAST. UTLC JSC is the first integration business project that combines the transit potential of three railways in the East-West corridor.

The perimeter of the "UTLC" JSC activity is the organization of container transportation “turnkey” along the base route Dostyk / Altynkol-Brest-Dostyk / Altynkol as part of container trains, which runs along the railways of Kazakhstan, Russia, and Belarus.

JSC "Russian Railways Logistics" presented the service "Russian Railways Express" for the transport of small and consolidated shipments of goods and initiated a project for the transport of postal transportation by rail as part of container trains.


A new accelerated container train was launched on the Changchun-Yekaterinburg route In 2017, which runs from China through Zabaikalsk. PJSC TransContainer optimazied logistic processes and attract freight flows from alternative types of transport and routes. Cargo in Changchun comes from the ports of Ningbo, Shanghai, Guangzhou and Qingdao. Transit time in transit is 12 days.

Sinotrans Corporation has implemented the following container container shuttle services running:

Lanzhou (from Lanzhou to Almaty in Kazakhstan);
Changsha-Europe Express (from Changsha to Duisburg in Germany);
Guangdong-Xinzang-Central Asia (from Shilong station in Guangdong to five countries of Central Asia),
Guangdong-Manchuria-Europe (from Shilun station to Guangdong via Russia to Duisburg in Germany),
Guangdong-Manchuria-Europe (is the longest container train route from China to Europe).

UTLC provides information on the advanced technology of the XL Train. Three pilot trains were sent using this technology in September of 2017.


In the context of increasing demand for transportation in China-Europe-China traffic in order to reduce costs and improve the efficiency of using the capacity of the infrastructure of the transit route on the railways of Kazakhstan, Russia and Belarus, UTLC EPA JSC implements a new technology for sending long-distance container trains UTLC XL train (eXtra Long train) - a train with a length of 80 conditional flatcars consisting of forty-four 80-foot platforms.

AN experimental container train with a length of 91 conditional wagons was sent In October 2017, which included 50 long-base 80-foot fitting platforms. The train load was 100 units of 40-foot containers.
