On the 26th of March 2021, the Port of Narvik, Nurminen Logistics Oy and RZD (October territorial centre of corporate transport service) took a Zoom meeting to discuss a possible correction of rail tariff for Reefer containers from Helsinki via the Trans-Siberian route to Vladivostok and onwards to Japan, China and South Korea.
The Port of Narvik held a presentation on Norwegian Seafood export to Asia for the last 10 years referring to official information from Norges SjomatrSd (Norwegian seafood Council) and Statistisk sentralbyra (Statistics Norway). The presentation covered few issues as the biggest world markets for the Norwegian seafood export, its quantity and value by species, sea freight costs, special aspects of Norwegian seafood export to Asia.
In addition, it was touched upon the challenges with Nordic tariffs from Narvik to Helsinki and how it influences the final price for the end customer who wishes to use rail transport for their cargo. In compliance with EU Green Deal and the UN sustainability goals the participants of the meeting are looking for a better utilization of the railway as this is a green mode of transport.
