Sassnitz-Mukran, 12 November 2019. The first two direct freight trains from China to Mecklenburg-Vorpommern met on Tuesday, November 12, 2019, at the port of Mukran. The train left with 48 containers to the east. The 640-metre long freight train headed west to Xi'an, China via Kazakhstan, Russia and Belarus, on a 10,000km journey with 42 containers to Baltiysk, Kaliningrad, where the containers were transshipped to a feeder ship. In the port of Mukran, the containers were loaded on rails with the Mukran Port Terminals GmbH & Co. KG.
A new Silk Road Initiative corridor was officially opened in the port of Mukran with all interested sides.
"With the arrival of the first train from Xi'an to the port of Mukran, China is increasingly becoming a hub for European logistics. I firmly believe that there will be more such trains from China in the future, also thanks to our business partners from the Kaliningrad region," said Harm Sievers, Managing Director of Mukran Port.
