Transit will be increased by postal items

There is a great potential for increasing the volume of transportation of postal items by rail, said the Secretary General of the CCTT Mr. Gennady Bessonov at the XVIII International Online Conference "Transport Services Market: Interaction and Partnership".

"For several years we have been systematically working with the Universal Postal Union (UPU), international customs organizations, representatives of Poland, Lithuania, and Russia to transfer as many postal items as possible to rail transport," said Mr. Bessonov. Among the latest achievements, according to him, is the fact that mail is no longer sent in single shipments, but in container trains.

"This is a major breakthrough, which we have achieved despite a lot of difficulties. For example, with the fact that it still requires the physical presentation of documents for each item of departure. And this is a space for digitalization, the development of common standards for these documents" concluded he.
